Jetty Paint 1

This is an image I did in Photoshop tracing over my previous drawing of Jetty the magical girl. This time, I had a little better idea of what I was doing, I took a little more time to clean it up, and I added a solid color layer on low opacity to give it a more unified color theme.

I think this is about as good as I can make the image look within my current skill level. I feel like I'm missing something that's making the image look flat, but I can't figure out what. And nothing's going to fix my bad line work except practice. I might just go back to Illustrator– like I used for the Unmasking pictures– and see how that turns out.

God's will be done for me. I love you. Amen.

Poses and Proportions

Today's post is less colorful than yesterdays. My biggest problem with yesterday's post was the terrible proportions, so I worked on these in class. I have a hardest time with the limbs, head, and hands. As long as I take my time and go back and redo what I've done, I can get proportions to be much better. I just get impatient.

Anyway, God's will be done. Lord save us all. Amen.

Fuzzy Paint Test

Originally I wasn't going to post this picture because I kind of hated how it turned out. But I looked up some tutorials online and played around with some Photoshop filters to get it to look better. It feels a little bit like cheating, and I'm still not totally happy with the final product. But it's better. At the very least it will serve as a touchstone for things in the future– assuming I get better overtime.

For this picture, I drew it in pencil and then used that as a reference in Photoshop. It's a more accurately proportioned drawing of the character Fuzzy from some of my earlier posts. I'm still not sure about the color choices here, but I'm going to let it slide for now.

God be with me. Lord save me. I love you. Amen.

The Exceptionals

I started this picture in class and finished it just a few minutes ago. It's a drawing of the characters from an idea I wrote out. Basically, it came from the idea of "what if superheroes had powers that could actually solve the world's problems" and "what if you gave those powers to some of the most messed up people in modern society?" What would they do with those powers? How would they change the world? Most of the stories I write are because I want to create happy stories, but the Exceptionals is more for catharsis. I can only really write it well when I'm mad. Thankfully, I haven't felt like working on it in a while.

I also like the amount of practice this picture gave me with full bodies and group shots. Not much action going on, but I was able to draw lots of different people. You may recognize Fuzzy (in the center) from a few blog posts ago.

From left to right:

Luc "Neohyperman" Amagi, Nicole "Crazy Magnet" Foster, Sean "Grouch" Galinski, Asher "Ash" Gomez, Sherry "Bunny Girl" Pashaei, Lara Eden "Ellie/Fuzzy" Bellman, Kia "Hypnos" McLaren-Wix, and Meryl "Blondie" Vogan.

I hope everyone out there is doing well. God bless everybody. God save me. Amen.

Edge of Something

I wasn't originally going to post this picture because it still looks like kind of a mess. If I had the inclination, I would scan it into Adobe Illustrator and clean it up with the line and brush tools. But then someone encouraged me to put it on here, so I have!

It's more of me trying to figure out more unique and extreme perspectives. This one is a little stiff, but it is extreme. It communicates a story.

This picture was done with a video reference, though not a drawn reference. I wanted to practice the head shape, body proportions, and hands. This image is based somewhat on Ginny Di, the YouTuber. She does a lot of videos about Dungeons and Dragons and tabletop roleplaying games in general which I like. She's had some good advice about how to be a less selfish player that was helpful to me.

Practicing a new head shape. I messed around with the colors of this image because you can totally see the previous picture through the paper. Whoops. Anyway, hopefully this new method of head construction will help with different angles. I need to work on the chin.

This was a drawing I did in class without a reference. It was inspired by the 2022 game Sifu, which is a truly beautiful martial arts video game. I can recommend checking it out.

This is another picture I made today with the new head construction. It was also done with a photo video as reference. You can still see the other drawing poking through the paper. Oh well. The drawing is modeled after Jenna Moreci. She does videos on YouTube about writing which I've found helpful. She's also very funny.

This is a drawing I did in class of the titular character from Astro Boy. It was just based on what I could remember. I've compared my drawing here to the actual model, and I was way off. Apparently he has ears? And a real nose? Weird. I also made the hair too pronounced. Looking at my drawing, I almost think he looks more like Jenny from My Life as a Teenage Robot than he does Astro Boy.

God be with me. Lord have mercy on me this week and always. I love you. Amen.
