Gesture Drawings Again

I usually don't like gesture drawings, but today I woke up with a hankering for them. I actually liked these better than some of the ones I've done in the past, so I thought I'd put them on here.

You may have noticed I went back to lined paper today, because gesture drawings don't deserve clean paper.

God bless everybody. God's will be done. Amen.

Sketch for a Card

This was practice I did for my Mother's Day card this year. It's Peter Quill and his mom Meredith in the style of Scottie Young's Marvel Babies, an art style I really like.

I wanted to do a practice drawing to make sure that the characters were placed correctly and everything. Then I did a clean pass which I won't include here, because that's the actual card. I like how big I got Meredith's smile, and I like Peter's little head tilt.

Happy belated Mother's Day, everybody! God bless you all.

From Below

More practice of characters where you can see the underside of their chin. I'm just trying here. Ironically the one that looks the best is the one that's only turned slightly to the side. Though that is the most recent one. But that kind of pose is mostly why I want to be able to draw the underside of the chin. I want it for the subtle head motions, not usually the dramatic underhead shots.

God be with me. Lord save us. Amen.

Hogarth Hughes

Several sketches from memory of Hogarth Hughes, the protagonist of the cinematic masterpiece The Iron Giant. It doesn't quite look like him, but the idea is there.

I appreciate the style of The Iron Giant because its characters are very proportional, but the style is still very western. Normally over here, where characters are drawn with realistic proportions it's because we're taking influence from anime. And that's awesome, but it's also cool to have some examples of western-style animation that don't look like throw up.

God be with me. I love you. Amen.

Practice from Pictures

The above picture I drew from a character I practiced on, but then I changed the pose and expression here, so I felt like including it.

This was meant to be Kia from The Exceptionals again. I was just trying to figure out what he looked like, and maybe do more detail and accurate proportions than I'm used to.

Miles Morales with an image I saw very quickly.

Chihiro from Spirited Away, also done after seeing a quick reference.

Yesterday I just did this drawing to warm up my hands. I liked it enough to put here, though. Nothing fancy.

God's will be done.

Teen Titans Doodles From Memory

A classic scene from Teen Titans. I had doodled Cyborg previously, so I did have practice there. But the other two characters I based on what I could remember.

"Well how am I supposed to watch TV without a remote!?"

"Simple. You get up... and change the channel."

"Don't even joke like that."

"I wasn't joking."

"Good! Cuz' it wasn't funny!"

Catch Up

I'm not sure if I posted this one before or not.

I tried to do some clothing practice with this one. Mixed results, but I like how clean I got the lines.

Adam is a Brain Beast. Basically if the Persona series was even more like Pokemon.

Playing kind of loose with the order of these pictures. I didn't post these earlier. I guess I was feeling self conscious. I don't know. Anyway, it's summer now. Praise God. God bless us all.

God be with me. I love you. Amen.
